Art. Jewellery. Products.The Institute for Research in Applied Arts (IRAA) originated from various research activities by the staff in the school of Applied Art and Design as well as the Laboratory for Illustration and Animation, which is a specialist area in the School of Communication Design. It was founded by the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences on 30 January 2009 as an artistic and scientific research institution.

IRAA
- ist die Plattform für ein im Aufbau befindliches interdisziplinäres Rapid Prototyping Kompetenzzentrum für Schmuck, Produkt und Inszenierung
- bündelt Forschungsprojekte und nimmt Entwicklungsaufgaben in der Forschung im Crossover von künstlerischen und technischen Verfahrensweisen und Produktionsmethoden wahr
- betreibt Grundlagenforschungen zu einem zeitgemäßen Schmuckbegriff
- fördert Kooperationen durch Veranstaltung von Ausstellungen, Seminaren, Workshops und Konferenzen
- akquiriert Drittmittelprojekte, entwickelt und verstetigt Formate der Zusammenarbeit mit der Industrie
- bietet KünstlerInnen der Applied Arts die Möglichkeit eines Aufenthalts als Artist in Residence
